Wellingtone Marks 25 Years of Transforming Project Management Capability

Wellingtone, a specialist consultancy in project, program and portfolio management (PPM), today marks 25 years since its founding in 2001. Over the past quarter century, the company has grown from a UK start-up into a Microsoft Global Partner of the Year, working with organizations across the UK, Europe, North America and beyond to strengthen how they manage projects, program, and portfolios.

The milestone also marks 10 years since Wellingtone launched its State of Project Management Report, now an established industry benchmark.

Founded in Windsor in 2001, Wellingtone became a Microsoft Partner in 2009 and a Microsoft Gold Partner in 2013, laying the foundations for a technology partnership that continues today. In 2014, the company was Endorsed as an APM Training Provider, formalizing its role in developing PPM capability across industry.

The following decade saw Wellingtone extend its influence beyond direct client work. In 2016, the company launched its first State of Project Management Report, an annual, evidence-based benchmark of PPM and PMO maturity that has since been shaped by thousands of participants sharing their experience of project, program and portfolio management. The report continues to run today. In 2017, it launched FuturePMO, now an annual one-day conference that brings around 300 PMO professionals from around the world together to share insight and practice.

International growth followed between 2018 and 2020, with expansion into Spain and LATAM, Wellingtone’s first major UK central government contract, and its entry into Formula 1 with its first motorsport team client. In 2020, the company also launched the Wellingtone Community, a network that has since grown to more than 2,000 members.

A Landmark Year: 2021

2021 proved to be a landmark year for the business. Wellingtone expanded into India, launched Accelerator+, its configurable PPM Power App, achieved Cyber Essentials Plus certification, and became an approved P3M3 assessment provider.

That momentum was formally recognized in 2024 and 2025, when Microsoft named Wellingtone a Partner of the Year finalist, top 4 globally, before naming the company outright winner of the Project & Portfolio Management Partner of the Year award in 2025, ranking Wellingtone #1 globally in its category. Wellingtone also expanded into North America during this period.

In 2026, the company published its 50th client case study, and the Wellingtone Community passed 2,000 members, as Wellingtone marks 25 years in business.

Two client examples from across Wellingtone’s work illustrate what that partnership looks like in practice.

In 2026, The Crown Estate turned to Wellingtone’s Accelerator+ platform to bring order to more than 100 fragmented digital projects that had previously been tracked across disconnected spreadsheets and informal workarounds, replacing them with one clear, joined-up delivery framework.

Elsewhere, when professional body ACCA needed help with a Microsoft migration, Wellingtone worked alongside their team throughout the transition.

Wellingtone now operates internationally, with a multicultural, multilingual team.  The company works with organizations of all sizes across the public and private sectors, and is headquartered in Windsor, England, where it was founded.

Wellingtone shows no sign of slowing down. The next chapter includes further investment in Microsoft PPM solutions, and growth of both FuturePMO and the Wellingtone Community across its newer markets, including North America. Wellingtone is also developing new consultancy and training offerings to help organizations put AI to practical, everyday use.
